The Welcome & Goodbye plugin is a key part of any server that wants to make a members entrance experience personalized.
This feature will allow you to send a user a personalized message in a server channel when a user joins the server.
Under this dropdown located at the top of the section, you will be able to select the channel in which the welcome message will be sent to.
This is the section right below it, you will see it has two options, a Text message
(defualt) or an Embed message
. You can switch between the two to see which one you like better.
Present in the message, you will see the {user}
and {server}
variables. A full list of avialbe variables can be found on the support portal.
Below the message area, you will see an option to send a welcome card when a user joins the server. The welcome card is an image that gets sent along with the welcome message, the text on it can be edited with a premium subscription.
Please note that MEE6 requires the Send Messages
permission to be able to send the welcome message to the channel.
If you select the embed message option, MEE6 also requires the Embed Links
permission in the channel.
If you enable the welcome card option, MEE6 also will require the Attach Images
permission in the channel.
Below the public message, you will see a toggle where you can send a private message. This message will send in the users Direct Messages (DMs) when they join the server.
The private message also includes the option of having a Text message
(default) or an Embed message
. The variables will also work within these messages.
The private message option does allow you to send a welcome card as well, usefull if you don't want it to clutter public channels.
Users must have their DMs enabled in the server to receive this message. They can enable that setting in User Settings → Privacy and Safety → "Allow direct messages from server members".
MEE6 will automatically attach a gray, disabled, button to welcome DMs containing the server name the DM came from.
The next option on the page allows you to give a role to new members who join the server.
In the section you will see an option to Select a role
, this is where you will select the role that MEE6 will give out.
MEE6 requires Manage Roles
permission to be able to give out the welcome role.
The MEE6 role needs to be HIGHER than the role you are giving out in your servers' role hierarchy, you can learn how to fix this in the support center.
The final option on the page will allow you to send a text message when a user leaves the server.
The first dropdown you will see in the section is where you will select the channel where the message should be sent.
Below that is the message box where you can edit the message that is sent when a user leaves the server
Due to discord limitations, the leave message can only be a message in a channel.
It is also recommended that you do not include a user ping in the leave message, as it will not format correctly.
By configuring these features, you can ensure that your server members get a warm and loving welcome to your server.
